Why do my platys keep trying to eat my air hose?
Well My platy fish (Missy, Prissy and Sissy) all keep trying to eat my air hose! They go up to it and pluck at it like they pluck there food from the surface. Idk why! Is this normal? Or should i worry??
Haha, I know exactly what you're talking about! My platys do that all the time, to everything. Their tank has been set up for some time so usually they pluck at the areas that have algae. And smooth plastic surfaces seem to grow algae much faster than other surfaces. So, I'm guessing the platys are conditioned to this- - maybe the tank they came from at the pet store/ breeder had similar tubes that grew algae. The peck at this air tube expecting food. The behavior is totally cool, just an example of unintentional conditioning.
